Yes, everything you've heard is true. Austin, TX is scrumptious. Who would have thunk it? I certainly wouldn't have. Never have I ever been to any part of Texas. Before we ventured out that way, my stereotypes were much like others who have never been to Texas. I imagined BBQ after BBQ after BBQ with a little grass-fed cow thrown into this mix. Maybe some Tex Mex too. Not that there is anything wrong with these types of cuisines. These are some of my all time favorites. Not that grass-fed cow is ...

It has become a holiday tradition to seek out the latest release in the Bruery's 12 Days of Christmas series. It feels like it was just yesterday that I picked up a bottle of Partridge in a Pear Tree at a Bevmo in Pasadena, California. At the time, The Bruery was in its infancy and unless you lived within 50 miles of Orange County, you would think that I was misspelling the word "brewery". Even the following year, with the release of Two Turtle Doves, the Bruery was still small but growing, gain ...

It is not that long ago that finding a pumpkin beer at the local beer mart was like finding fresh avocados in Antarctica. It just did not happen. However, in the last few years, pumpkin has basically become the next best thing to chocolate. I mean, you can get pumpkin in just about anything this time of year, and beer is by no means an exception. We thought that will several pumpkin beers hitting the shelves this year, it would be nice to compare them (blindly) to determine a true pumpkin beer k ...

What do you get when you take a big . . . I mean massive pumpkin beer, packed with more pumpkin than the local pumpkin patch and as much spice as chai tea, and then let it age in rum barrels for half a year? Rumpkin is what you get, Rumpkin. It is plain and simple mathematics here folks, Rum + Pumpkin - Pum = Rumpkin. However, this beer is anything but plain and simple. In fact it is more complex than reading a calculus textbook written in hieroglyphics. If you have ever been hit in the face wit ...

We recently stumbled upon Crystal Springs Brewing Company when we acquired a bottle of the Black Saddle Port Barrel-Aged (PBA) Stout . It blew my socks off and is by far one of the best stouts in the country. Thus, during a recent trip to a local beer store, I had to pick up some other beers from Crystal Springs Brewing Company (in addition to another bottle of the Black Saddle PBA Stout). While Crystal Springs Brewing Company may very well be the smallest brewery in the country, their beers are ...

I will be the first to admit that when buying beer, I tend to steer away from breweries that I have never heard of. My experience with new breweries is that the beers can be a bit dissapointing at first and so I will mostly stay away for at least a year or two. However, last week, I thought I would take a chance with the Black Saddle PBA (Port Barrel-Aged) Stout from Crystal Springs Brewing Company located in Boulder, Colorado. If you live outside of the Front Range, you most likely have never h ...

So, Avery's Rumpkin to be released on Friday, September 29, 2012 at 5 PM. If your lips have never been blessed by the beer Avery calls "Rumpkin", you are truly missing out. There are more pumpkin beers on the market than varieties of cheese it seems., but Rumpkin continues to set itself apart from the rest. Basically, if you can imagine what would happen if you took the biggest and boldest pumpkin ale ever made and then aged it in rum barrels (for 6 months nonetheless), you can get an idea of wh ...

Porter + Chipotle + Whiskey = Heaven in a bottle. Enough said. Yea, Mikkeller went there and brewed up a beer that is certainly not going to disappoint. Chili beers are becoming more and more mainstream with each passing second these days. Many chili beers have a very pronounced heat factor that creates a slight tingle on the tongue. This is because most chili beers produced today are brewed or fermented with plain chili peppers (e.g., jalapeño, anaheim, ghost, etc.). However, Mikkeller went a ...
